Gay Malta: Hotels & Where to Stay Saint Julian’s and Sliema are the two most popular areas to stay, especially for gay travelers. Just a short drive north of Valletta, these two neighborhoods straddle Saint Julian’s Bay, which is where you’ll find most other gay travelers, restaurants, nightlife, and Malta’s best beach hotels.
Malta doesn’t have a sprawling queer scene, but what’s here is full of heart. Café Society in Valletta is a cosy, low-lit bar set into the stone steps of the city, ideal for negronis and easy conversation. In St. Julian’s, Michelangelo Club Lounge is a buzzing gay club with DJs, drag nights and a party crowd.
Gay nightlife in Malta is not very big, but almost all venues are very gay friendly. The idea we had was that the locals participate more in the various events and parties that take place throughout the year.
